Leigh's First Blog

Welcome once again. This first blog sets out what you can expect from me herein. Firstly, since we are all busy people with an overload of information coming at us from every possible resource, my plan is to limit each blog to a maximum 400 words, which also serves to prove I am a disciplined writer who can be trusted.

If you are like me, you will already subscribe to an abundance of industry circulars from Publishers Weekly to book sales statistics, Revolving Door, mediabistro.com, Bookscan, Writer's Digest etc etc, so I have only listed two blogs under Writer Resources: Nathan Bransford and Booksquare.

Nathan Bransford is an agent with Curtis Brown and also a writer, so his blog tends to be balanced and not a rant about agent/writer relationships (a hot topic in recent times), plus he is forward thinking when it comes to the new era of publishing where self-publishing now dominates—in 2008, for the first time in history, more books were self-published than were produced by publishing houses, and this exponential growth is set to soar further in 2009 and beyond.

Kassia Krozser from Booksquare offers her insights on the publishing industry as it stands today. This is worth following since technological advances have made self-publishing a first choice for a majority of authors, and many observers are therefore curious to see how the traditional publishing model responds.

I've also included links to a number of other author blogs. It is an eclectic mix of writers who blog on various genres and interests, from crime, thriller, to a neuroscientist who writes from a rather unique perspective. The list is in no particular order and only features not-yet-big-name writers since it is easy enough to find the rest with a Google search.

As for blog topics, I plan to write about, well … writing and publishing of course, and to feature aspects of my books, for example, an outline of the characters in The Glass Table. Occasionally I might also blog about the minutiae of a writer's life, mine specifically, which otherwise will not fit into 140 characters on Twitter. I'm also open to suggestions … regarding blog topics that is.

Finally, a special thank you to everyone—family, friends, and husband/benefactor, for their unrelenting and possibly misguided support over the years.

Regards
Leigh

Leigh - you have done a stunning job on your website and your book.

Your website is a great read and I know from my own children that they just loved having stories read to them. The quest for new, different and relevant stories was never ending.

Your book will do well - good books always do ;-)

Congratulations.

Warm regards

Monika
